According to the findings of a study [1] The risks of developing coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes has been linked in genes.
The findings are important because it aids in the understanding of both diseases. The study results also identifies potential goals for the development of future drugs and targets for existing drugs (including icosapent ethyl and adipocyte fatty-acid-binding protein)
Notably the study found a one direction relationship between coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The genetic risk of developing type 2 diabetes is more likely to involve a much higher risk of developing coronary heart disease than the other way around.
The joint authors of the study results are: Wei Zhao,Asif Rasheed and Emmi Tikkanen. Directed by: Benjamin F Voight andDanish Saleheen
